The Ruby Martin Home for Needy Children was developed by Tom Martin through the generous help of family and friends after he and his wife Thelma visited her native Phillipines in 2005. After witnessing first-hand the poverty and degradation that so many of the children were being subjected to they realized they had to do something to help. As original contributor to the success of this project, Ruby Martin always said she would visit someday, just not in this life. Her love is certainly present at the Home. The project went from concept to reality in late 2005 after several paved slabs and some land was procured in the Talimandok district of Orani, Bataan, Phillipines. Immediately, local government and clergy supported the endevours of the home to take care of children who in most cases, had nowhere to turn.
Biblically based concepts such as loving one another as you love yourself, respecting others & elders, and sharing praising the Lord before every meal and keeping the Sabbath holy are all just some values taught to the youngsters who might not have ever heard about Christ our Savior. This is a Christian-based facility. Partnering with the local In Jesus Name Fellowship Church, the children have a congregation to worship in and the church-goers have an outlet to serve in the Home. Many of these poverty-stricken locals still give the little that they have, to ensure these children (some abandoned, others are crippled, but all are loved) have a place to stay and meal to eat. |

Born in Havre, Montana on December 22, 1911, Ruby was the second of five children. She lost her mother at a very early age and learned the role of "motherhood" out of necessity. She earned her nursing degree at the age of 17 and spent over 75 years caring and nurturing people back to health, but her true love was taking care of children.
Before passing from this life on October 13, 2008, Ruby Martin visited the Holy Land in Isreal and witnessed the birth of her two sons, most of her 10 grandchildren, some of her 22 great-grandchildren and almost all 5 of her great-great grandchildren. The greatest witness she ever was though, was a witness to the power, love and grace of our Holy Father who blessed her with the a special kind of love and compassion for children. |
